How to Paint a Bedroom: Rules of Renovation Tips

Becoming an expert in real estate, home renovation, and interior design takes time, effort, and dedication. Finding success in the real estate renovation industry doesn’t just requires the ability to anticipate emerging trends, but it also demands a keen attention to detail particularly when it comes to basic concepts like establishing flow and properly painting a room. As testimonials describe in many Rules of Renovation reviews, we are experts when it comes to renovating real estate, and created this guide to help.

As elementary as it may seem, many hopeful real estate designers neglect to master the simple task of interior painting. With the help of these quick tips, you can understand and apply the proper techniques needed to paint a room with expert precision. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be featured in Rules of Renovation reviews in the future, and your journey begins here.

1. Gather All the Right Tools
One of the biggest painting missteps results from a lack of proper tools and supplies. Instead of trying to make-do without painters tape or trying to find a substitute for a particular paintbrush, take the time and effort to ensure you have all the supplies and equipment you need before you begin your painting project. This will require you to plan your approach and develop a strategy. Are you just painting one wall in the bedroom? Are you incorporating various colors of paint? Does the ceiling need a fresh layer of paint as well?

By meticulously planning your approach, you can better prepare for your painting project. This won’t just help you save time in the long run, but it will also produce better results.

2. Repair and Remove
Before you begin painting, be sure to repair any areas of the walls or ceiling that are damaged. Regardless of whether a few nail holes need to be filled or an entire drywall panel needs to be replaced, taking the time to fix these problems ahead of time will save you the headache of dealing with them in the future.

Be sure to also remove all electrical switch and outlet faceplates, as well as any wall sconces, picture hangers, and any other fixtures and attachments. After removing these elements, go around the room and apply quality painters tape to all baseboards, ceiling moldings, and door frames.

3. Use Tools Wisely
Be smart and strategic when using tools. Things like edgers and small brushes should be used for corners, near door frames, and along ceiling and floorboards, while bigger brushes and rollers are more applicable for larger spaces. In order to avoid streaks and discoloration, make an effort to use long, smooth brushstrokes and don’t overload the brush or roller with paint, as this often results in splatters.

4. Don’t Neglect the Trim
Even if you think the trim is in good condition, applying a fresh coat of paint to these areas is key. After the walls are completely dry, slowly peel off the painters tape around the trim, making sure not to peel or pull off any paint. To ensure your trim paint doesn’t bleed onto the walls, carefully line the walls around all windows, doors, baseboards, and ceiling trim with fresh painters tape.

Starting with the trim closest to the ceiling, begin applying the paint color of your choice and make your way down. For optimal results on narrow trim, window frames, and door frames, use a 1.5” angled sash brush. Use a 2.5” flat brush on wider places like baseboards. Again, only remove the tape once the paint is completely dry.

By following these tips, you can quickly master the art of painting a bedroom, kitchen, living room, or any other areas of the home.
